The last thing you want in winter is for your boiler to break down. Waking up to a cold house or finding your tap doesn’t produce warm water for a morning wash is not a pleasant experience. While winter boiler maintenance can’t guarantee that a breakdown won’t happen, it does reduce the risk.
There are a few things you can do to help with the situation as well. Regularly running your heating is important as this makes sure everything is working. Gas and electricity are expensive and you may be tempted to only use the heating when things are at their coldest. But this is actually the most inefficient way to do it and will cost you more money than running it at a lower temperature regularly.
Check the boiler location and make sure nothing is blocking things like air vents that can stop it from working properly. Also, make sure nothing is leaning against it or impacting the insulation.
Lastly, keep an eye on any pipes that go outside or sit against exterior walls if it is particularly cold. That way you have a better chance of spotting if they look like freezing and getting help to deal with them before they burst.
